Learn about OpenAI’s exciting new model GPT-4o, and how we’re using it at Curiosity.
This week, OpenAI released GPT-4o, their latest flagship model that promises to transform our interaction with artificial intelligence.
The “O” stands for “omni” signifying its multiskillful capabilities. It can process and generate text, audio, and images in real-time.
If you’re enthusiastic about technological advancements or intrigued by AI (like we are), this announcement is really exciting, and that’s not all…
… OpenAI is making GPT-4 available to all users for free!
Let’s dig into what GPT-4o offers and how we’re using at Curiosity to help people be more productive with our desktop app.
What is ChatGPT-4o?
OpenAI’s latest model, GPT-4o, is engineered to process and generate text, audio, and images. That sets it apart from previous versions with its omni-modal capabilities, versatility for different applications, and improved speed and performance with better memory and continuity across all your conversations.
Exciting New Features of ChatGPT-4o
Real-time Interaction: GPT-4o has concurrent handling of text, audio, and images. Guess what? It can process audio inputs super quickly, in just 232 milliseconds at its fastest. On average, it responds in about 320 milliseconds. That’s just as fast as a human conversation! The speed makes it makes it like having an audio or video call with the model.
Language Facilitation: It now supports 50 different languages and performs twice as fast as GPT-4 Turbo on English text and code. It also shows significant improvement on non-English texts.
Cost: Aligned with their mission to ensure artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity, OpenAI is making GPT-4 available for free to all users. Additionally, paid users will receive up to 5 times more capacity than free users.
API support: The API is twice as fast, 50% cheaper, and offers five times higher rate limits compared to GPT-4 Turbo.
Security features: To safeguard it from misuse, more security measures are applied to ChatGPT due to its real-time interaction.
Voice features: Before GPT-4, you could use voice mode to interact with ChatGPT, but it was quite slow. The new features now include the ability to interrupt the model and the model’s capability to generate voice in various tones. It also includes real-time translation. The model can now also accurately comprehend the user’s emotions in both audio and video formats.
Mastering Math and Data: The new model can now perform advanced data analysis and solve equations seamlessly in real-time while interacting with the camera. It can provide even provide hints on how to solve them.
Benchmark Performance
For the techies out there, GPT 4–o pushes the limits in benchmark tests. Below is an overview of text benchmarks. It also does well on vision, math, and audio benchmarks.
You can learn more about these and other benchmarks on OpenAI’s website.
How You Can Use ChatGPT4-o With Curiosity
At Curiosity, we’ve had been integrating ChatGPT and other LLMs since they first became publicly available.
Of course we integrated ChatGPT-4o into Curiosity immediately.
The integration is rolling out with the next update. For now we’re focussing on text, but we plan to update image features in the future.
In the desktop app, ChatGPT helps our users with the following features:
Quick-Access Shortcut: Offers fast access to AI Assistant for instant answers, translations, and email editing, boosting productivity.
Talk-to-your-files (“Ask AI Assistant”): Integrates AI Assistant with documents for direct interaction, ideal for quickly finding and verifying information in complex documents.
Summarise documents: Provides brief summaries of files or documents, making it easier to decide whether further exploration is needed.
Custom AI Assistants: Allows the creation of task-specific AI Assistants, streamlining activities like drafting blog posts or writing release messages, saving time and maintaining consistency.
